What Happens in the First Acupuncture Sesh?

Never had acupuncture before? Here is a sneak peek!

① Intake

An intake with your acupuncturist will be a bit longer than your average medical intake with your primary doctor. This is because we ask you lots of questions that may or may not be related to your chief complaint. We do this so that we can identify diagnostic patterns and get a more holistic understanding of your body’s genetic constitution. Many patients are surprised to learn that a lot of their symptoms are energetically, physiologically, and/or emotionally connected from a Chinese medical point of view. As your practitioner, I seek the root of what is causing your symptoms to manifest physically in hopes that they will reduce or even go away completely!

② Tongue & Pulse

The quality of the tongue and pulse in Chinese medicine tells me a lot!

When I look at the tongue, I note the tongue body color, tongue coating, and overall moisture to get a better understanding of the internal landscape and how the organ systems are communicating with each other. Similar to face mapping, different regions of the tongue relate to the different organs, therefore, signifying what may or may not be out of balance.

The same thing goes for when I feel the different pulses. Each organ has a different pulse location on the wrists. This way I can note the speed, strength, thickness, and depth to get a clearer understanding of where the imbalance lies and where I need to focus my treatment.

Pretty cool, huh?

③ Treatment

Once I have asked you every question under the sun, I create a treatment plan that will be best suited for you and your chief complaint. Acupuncture itself is a rather painless experience, but my style of needling is very gentle and customized to your comfort level. With your consent, I will often choose to combine acupuncture with other modalities such as electroacupuncture, fire cupping, and/or bodywork to elevate the impact of my treatments.

Our total time together usually lasts around 1-1.5 hours depending on what we decide to do that day. But whatever it is, I guarantee to have you floating out of the room on ☁︎Cloud 9☁︎ afterwards!

④ Homework

Yes… there is homework. You didn’t think I was going to do all the work for you, did you!?

Wrong! Usually when someone decides to get acupuncture, they are at their wits-end with understanding how to care for themselves. That is where I step in!

I offer take-home guidance through ancient herbal remedies, food recommendations, herbal recipes, breath work exercises, and much more! Now I can offer these life-altering tidbits all day long, but if you can’t make the commitment to do your part of The Work™️ too, then I can’t promise you that you will see the results you desire. Part of my job is to empower YOU — to give you the tools to step into your highest self with greater awareness and confidence!

Help me help you & you won’t be disappointed❤︎
